Administration Increases Seasonal Worker Visas

June, 02, 2018

The Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor have increased the number of H-2B temporary, non-immigrant, non-agricultural visas by an additional 15,000 through the end of Fiscal Year 2018. This increase is based on current statutory authority and does not apply to the H-2B program in future fiscal years.

The H-2B Visa program allows workers to work in the U.S. on a temporary basis and is not a path to citizenship. The program has a cap of 66,000 visas, which typically is reached within the first 4-6 months of the year.  NAR supports this visa program because these seasonal workers play a valuable role in maintaining resort and second home properties and communities, such as landscapers, wait staff and lifeguards.

NAR also supports reforms to the H-2B program that make the visas more transparent and accountable, offer temporary jobs to foreign workers without taking away opportunities from Americans and reduce regulatory burdens on employers.
